AFFILIATED SOCIETIES RESOLUTIONS 2016

AFFILIATED SOCIETIES RESOLUTIONS 2016

The affiliated society representatives voted in favour of the first two resolutions at the Affiliated Societies Conference on 9 April 2016. At the Committee Meeting on 16 April these resolutions were passed to the Show and Milk Recording Sub Group to look into and report back to the Main Committee.  We will keep you informed.

GLOUCESTERSHIRE & WILTSHIRE GOAT SOCIETY, DEVON GOAT SOCIETY

“Owing to the cost of the setting up and running the dairy goat section is it now time to re-consider the cost of the affiliated fee for recognised shows, particularly those ‘back to back ‘ shows? No other section of livestock, cattle, sheep and pigs, are required to pay a recognition fee by the Show. Many Shows themselves are under financial strain, with their accountants querying every cost, and they may find the Goat Tent too costly to stage. The finances of the BGS have greatly improved over the last few years, and surely some consideration could now be made with this financial burden before Goat Shows and entries are lost for good“.  CARRIED

Resolution submitted by Grampian Goat Club for consideration at 2016 Affiliated Societies Conference:

“BGS committee consider accepting as an option, BGS show milking competition yield and analysis figures in a maximum of 2 of the 3 required check weigh instances for goats being milk recorded via BGS recognised Milk Recording clubs/groups”.  CARRIED

SOMERSET GOAT CLUB

The Somerset Goat Club would like to put forward for consideration by the BGS the following resolution:

Owing to the cost of setting up and running the dairy goat section, several agricultural shows no longer want goats. Many other shows are also under financial pressure to reduce their costs and may decide in the future that providing a goat tent is an unnecessary expense. Is it now time, to re-consider the cost of the affiliation fee for recognised shows, particularly those that are “back to back”? No other section of livestock, cattle, sheep and pigs are required to pay a recognition fee by the show. The finances of the BGS are greatly improved over the last few years, therefore surely some consideration could now be made with this financial burden, before Goat Shows and entries are lost for good. We therefore propose that this charge be abolished”.  NOT CARRIED
